Father Adapts Gadgets For Daughter With Cerebral Palsy

There are several things that Cadence Flaata couldn’t do after she was born with Cerebral Palsy, for instance she was not able to shoot a water gun, shuffle a deck of cards or even joining her school’s archery team.

Today, Flaata mobility and speech have been limited by her condition. But with some help from her innovative dad, Darren Flaata, the 10-year old from Saskatchewan can now be able to do a number of things that she couldn’t do earlier for instance sledding, fishing, gardening and many more.
Darren has come up with a perfect gadget that adapts existing technology so that her daughter can be able to use them. For her daughter’s wheelchair, he has outfitted it so that she can be able to slide or ride a boat. In addition to that, he has rigged it up with water guns, fishing rods as well as arrows and bows which makes it possible for Cadence to operate they by simply switching her head.

“When she was born … she didn’t have her mobility," Darren told CTV Saskatoon. "So we weren’t sure what her capabilities would be."

But as Darren explains on his personal website, he was determined in ensuring that his daughter will be able to enjoy the same activities that he was able to enjoy when he was growing up.
“Has (her cerebral palsy) stopped her or us from making sure she gets every enjoyment and every opportunity?” the father wrote on his website. "NO WAY!"
