www.thetechstop.net When is an obsolete computer not an obsolete computer? — When it’s Gateway’s FX540XT! You’ll get more of the backstory within the episode itself, but let’s just say that when we first received this gaming desktop, 5 months ago, it was cutting-edge and the pinnacle of performance. Today it’s not quite the end-all be-all of gaming, but it still more than holds its own against rigs that are newer and more expensive. You can find more episodes in high resolution at www …

What’s wrong with this computer? It’s only 3 to 5 months old. That’s nothing. At least it does have a good amount of RAM, one of the fastest processors in the world that not many people can afford, nVidia graphics cards in SLI, and Windows Vista. Not that old to me, don’t you guys agree?
Nice review and overall nice desktop
Thanks Larz9220!
“crushed all the benchmarks leaving them begging for mercy”
I laughed hard, that sounded great
Buzzunt,
This is a familiar complaint with “software bloat” but the truth of the matter is that “a little software optimization” in a program that has millions of line of code is much easier said than done. — You have to remember that modern software has to be writen in modules that allow for a multitude of programers… this means that they forego some performance for flexibility. Take that away and software development times and costs go through the roof.
Peace,
Fr. Robert
new computers are overrated. all 3-5 year old would run crysis if they did a little software optimization. this is done to get more money from people. such a waste.
why did you say omfg arnt you religious? Good review.
Oops… slip of the pen. Sorry about that.
Peace,
Fr. Robert
8800GTX HAS GDDR3 NOT DDR2
i still prefer my dell xps 420
i have this pc
This design is very good, It would be good an fx notebook with that design
RAID 0 on 2 raptors? I would save every thing to an external HD.
oh sry :p
great review
Well if it was more of a “gadget” rather than a desktop PC, then the 5-month delay wouldn’t seem quite as bad. PCs are rapidly changing. Personally, I don’t really care to see desktop reviews anyway, since they’re really just a compilation of existing hardware. And I build my own PC.
I like seeing the more unique devices. The real “gadgets.”
logitechoz,
Well, when you don’t review a piece of gear (especially such an expensive piece of gear) on schedule you are much less likely to get new gear in the future.
What trouble did u get in?
Why you say that?
omfg!
a 8800GTX GPU with GDDR2 ?
everything is good but the motherboard ? ECS I don’t like that brand
good review btw 5/5 *****
Who says I didn’t get in trouble?
thanks for watching!
Not at all!
OMFG == “Oh My Fast Gaming (rig)!”
