Panel Search :
great,, glad i found this after buying one today,,, just need to get my usb dongle working for mobile broadband then i’m set…
Haha, I should’ve searched for “advanced mode” when I got my AAO, then I would’ve maybe kept Linpus on it for longer than the 15 minutes that it took me to get it out of the box, wipe the HDD, and install Ubuntu…
gnome worked well for me though i only had it on for 3 days then i dont remember what i did
Thanks i have installed fedora 10 successfully, I only got some troubles with gnome and temporally I have to use xcfe but It seems to be ok, just time to update.
not if you know what to do
its easy just quit the kpowersave un-install it and kolourpaint aswell then install kde and disable auto-login
do a full video later
fedora 10 works a dream all out of box opensuse11.1 best cos wifi works but screen setting need tweaking
Thanks for this, it’s a big help. Do you know if it’s possible to change linux to a more XP like appearance using hacks like the above?
Kev:
I find a little bit limitated lipnus.. Have you heard if someone has installing a different linux version like Fedora or OpenSuse?
Do you think Fedora 10 could run ok?
It doesn’t “give” you any software per se, the software is already on the laptop, it is simply not accessible without searching around more. To switch it back, simply uncheck the check box that I tell you to check in the video. Hope that helps, if you need any more help, feel free to ask! Take care!
Actually I think there are several guides out there on the internet, and of all of the programs, Skype is one of the easiest to install. Just do a Google for it.
There is no downside to enabling the “advanced” right click mode, it only offers you more options and allows easier access to programs that Acer did not provide links to in the OS. To return to the classic mode, simply follow the directions and uncheck “show desktop menu on right click”. This will return it to how it was when it was purchased.
what software does this give you exactly? anyone know? also can it be switched back. Thanks for any help
Hi, Have you managed to install skype yet, not easy is it!!.
thanks this worked for me – one problem though how can i return to classic mode – just out of interest?
Thanks for that, something so simple that improves my use of the machine.
No, it uses a custom desktop, I believe it’s built on top of xfce though. It’s possible to get to the normal desktop, though rather difficult.
Hey Thanks Kev, Thats Just What I Have Been Trying To Find Since I Got My Aspire One!
linpus linux lite uses the xfce desktop enviroment?
Hey Kev, I see compiz in the video menu’s, but how do I get it to stop looking like the standard ugly UI? I don’t want to install ubuntu because I wont be able to use the wifi out of the box, and dont want to try to manually download and install drivers. Just want the built in OS to have standard looking UI with Compiz. THX if you can help.
it doesnt work for me it just says file not fond, please help !
I will later on. I like the stock Linux. I really like the instant on. I have been testing gOS and Ubuntu 8 under Virtual Box on my Mac Mini. gOS is not what I expected some icons in the “dock” didnt work. I liked Ubuntu though.
install ubuntu
the hardpart is not even hard xD
just compile
lol yea well im picking up Linux fast now. I installed a 1 gig ram stick in my new one and have compiz running. Its awesome now. Im still learning.
Most of the commands to run FireFox3 would not work. I typed them in correctly many time and they were all bad commands. I assume the first Aspire One may have been corrupt since it f-ed up on re-installing.
dumb very dumb
Thanks for this video. I just picked one up last Thursday. I have managed to screw mine up so bad after two failed attempts to install FireFox 3 from terminal commands I had to exchange it for a new since the recovery disc errored out on reinstalling Linpus.
Kev will you show how to install some apps from Add/Remove? I tried to in Miro but it said it was missing dependencies?
